The Pyramid of Sinki, located near the sacred city of Abydos in Upper Egypt, is one of the most poorly preserved of the seven small provincial step pyramids attributed to the late 3rd Dynasty (c. 2600 BCE). Originally rising to approximately 6 meters in three steps, the structure has been reduced to a low mound of limestone rubble barely distinguishable from the surrounding terrain. At Giza bearing 349.27° and 422 km from the Great Pyramid, Sinki's proximity to Abydos — Egypt's most sacred site and the cult center of Osiris — gives it a potent location within the religious geography of the Nile Valley. The seven provincial pyramids formed a chain along the river that some scholars interpret as symbols of royal authority, others as markers for celestial observation, and still others as way stations for the pharaoh's ka on its journey through the afterlife landscape of the Egyptian kingdom.
