Edfu South Pyramid

The Edfu South Pyramid in Upper Egypt, on the west bank of the Nile approximately five kilometres south of the temple of Horus at Edfu — one of seven small provincial step pyramids attributed to pharaoh Huni or Sneferu of the Third or early Fourth Dynasty, ~2600 BCE. Original base 18.4 metres per side; original height around 12 metres on three or four stepped tiers. The structure is built of locally quarried sandstone and limestone with no internal substructure — no burial chamber, no entrance, no corridor system. Excavated by the Polish-Swiss expedition under Günter Dreyer between 1985 and 1990. The pyramid is the southernmost of the seven Huni-Sneferu provincial pyramids on the Nile and predates the major temple of Horus at Edfu by approximately twenty-three centuries.

A solid pyramid five kilometres south of one of the best-preserved Ptolemaic temples in Egypt, built two thousand three hundred years before the temple it sits next to went up.
