Alto de los Idolos crowns a natural hilltop in Colombia's upper Magdalena valley, commanding views of the river gorge below. Its centerpiece is the tallest San Agustin statue at 7 meters — a monolithic guardian carved from a single block of volcanic tuff. The site features artificial terraces shaped into burial mounds with stone-lined tombs, organized along a ridge that runs nearly parallel to a 58.43° Giza bearing. Polychrome paint traces on several statues confirm these were not austere monuments but vividly colored sentinels. The terracing technique and astronomical orientation echo pre-Columbian engineering traditions spanning from Peru to Mesoamerica.
