Natakamani (c. 1-20 CE) was the best-attested ruler of the Meroitic kingdom, co-ruling with Queen Amanitore in a dual monarchy that launched the most ambitious building program in late Kushite history. Their constructions span temples at Amara, Naqa, and the restoration of the great Amun temple at Napata. His pyramid at Meroe sits at a 350.08° Giza bearing, aligned with the entire Northern Cemetery along the Meroitic meridian corridor. Temple inscriptions at Naqa show both rulers depicted as equals — Amanitore sometimes appears alone smiting enemies, a privilege normally reserved for male pharaohs in the Egyptian artistic tradition.
