Prasat Muang Tam ("Lower City Temple") sits at the base of Phanom Rung's extinct volcano, forming a complementary upper-lower sanctuary pair. Five brick towers on a laterite platform are surrounded by four L-shaped ponds representing the cosmic ocean from which Mount Meru (Phanom Rung above) emerges. Elaborate carved lintels and pediments in Baphuon and Angkor Wat styles show multiple construction phases. Naga serpent balustrades line the approach. At 296.83° Giza bearing, Muang Tam's geometric relationship to Phanom Rung mirrors the Hindu cosmological model: the ocean of existence below, the sacred mountain above, both aligned to a single bearing toward Giza.
