The Baphuon is a five-tier temple-mountain that was the state temple of Udayadityavarman II (r. 1050-1066 CE). A 200-meter elevated causeway supported by columns leads to the temple entrance. Chinese diplomat Zhou Daguan, visiting in 1296, described it as the "Tower of Bronze" — suggesting it was once sheathed in metal. The west side conceals a massive 15th-century reclining Buddha constructed from the temple's own collapsing stones. The Baphuon underwent the longest restoration project in Angkor history — 51 years, involving the complete disassembly and reassembly of 300,000 stones. At 297.26° Giza bearing, the Baphuon's bronze-clad past hints at a metallic resonance layer now lost.
