Cahuachi was the great ceremonial capital of the Nazca civilization — 40 or more adobe pyramids and mounds spread across 24 square kilometers of the Nazca River valley. Giuseppe Orefici's excavations since 1984 have revealed that Cahuachi was not a residential city but a vast pilgrimage center, occupied only during festivals and rituals. The Great Temple is the largest structure, rising in stepped terraces. At 63.15° Giza bearing, Cahuachi sits on the same Pleiades corridor as the famous Nazca Lines visible from above the surrounding desert. The connection between the geoglyphs and the ceremonial center suggests an integrated sacred landscape of immense scale — visible from the ground and from the sky simultaneously.
