El-Hobagi's royal tumuli, rising 65 km southwest of Meroe, document the transition from Meroitic to post-Meroitic culture in the 4th century CE. Large burial mounds contain weapons, bronze vessels, and silver ornaments of a warrior elite. A bronze bowl bearing one of the last known Meroitic inscriptions includes the word 'Qore' (King), suggesting these were royal burials of a successor state that emerged as the great Kingdom of Kush fragmented. At 352.43° bearing to Giza across 1,500 km, El-Hobagi marks the twilight of Kushite civilization on the Sudan-Giza energy corridor.
