A rectangular Roman meander-type labyrinth mosaic discovered in 1904 in a ploughed field at Harpham, East Yorkshire — one of only five Roman labyrinth mosaics known in Britain. Three rooms with mosaic floors were excavated; the mosaics were removed to Hull Municipal Museum. Harpham sits in the chalk Wolds, an area rich in Roman villas serving the agricultural hinterland of the legionary fortress at York (Eboracum). At Giza bearing 325.79° and 3,670 km from the Great Pyramid, this is among the most distant Roman labyrinth mosaics from the Mediterranean origin zone.
