Naqa's Temple of Apedemak, built by King Natakamani and Queen Amanitore around 1 CE, features the finest surviving Meroitic religious relief: the royal pair smiting enemies before the lion god. The 100-meter-long Temple of Amun stretches along a processional avenue lined with ram-headed sphinxes. Most enigmatic is the 'Roman Kiosk' — a single-room structure blending Egyptian pylons, Roman arches, and Hellenistic columns in a style found nowhere else on Earth. UNESCO World Heritage listed. At 352.23° bearing to Giza across 1,540 km, Naqa and neighboring Musawwarat define the Butana sacred landscape south of Meroe.
