The Tonina Acropolis is a stepped pyramidal complex of seven tiered platforms rising 80 metres above the valley floor near Ocosingo in Chiapas, Mexico — making it one of the tallest Maya structures by total elevation. The complex was built into a natural hillside between approximately 350 and 900 CE, dressed in cut limestone and serving as the seat of the Tonina ajaw lineage. Tonina captured the Palenque ruler K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II in 711 CE — one of the few documented captures of a Classic Maya king — and the site holds one of the latest dated Maya inscriptions, Long Count 909 CE on Monument 101, marking the very end of the Classic Period dated record. The site was investigated by the French Archaeological Mission to Mexico under Pierre Becquelin and Claude Baudez beginning in 1972.

The Tonina Acropolis is a stepped pyramid carved into a hillside whose final inscription is the last Classic Maya date anyone wrote down.
