Wari (Huari) was the capital of the first Andean empire — a sprawling urban center covering 2,000 hectares near modern Ayacucho, with buildings painted in distinctive red and white. At its peak (600-1000 CE), the Wari Empire controlled much of Peru, establishing the administrative and road-building traditions that the Inca would later inherit and expand. At 62.49° Giza bearing on the highland Pleiades corridor, the capital sits on the same geometric line as its satellite at Pikillaqta. The city's D-shaped ceremonial structures, multi-story compounds, and sophisticated water management systems represent urbanism on a scale not seen again in the Andes until the Inca capital at Cusco. Trophy heads and evidence of ancestor veneration pervade the archaeological record.
