The Ziggurat of Dur-Kurigalzu, built by Kassite kings around 1400 BCE, stands uniquely legible among surviving ziggurats — its horizontal reed mat layers, used as structural reinforcement between every seven courses of brick, remain visible today like geological strata. The capital city covered 425 hectares with a royal palace spanning 420,000 square meters. At 256.64° Giza bearing, the site marks the northwestern anchor of the Mesopotamian ziggurat corridor. The Kassites, who ruled Babylon for over 400 years, were among the most mysterious Bronze Age peoples — their language has no known relatives, and their origin remains debated. Twisted rope reinforcements also survive within the structure.
