Candi Cetho is a stepped pyramid temple on Mount Lawu's upper slopes — one of the last Hindu sanctuaries built in Java before Islam's dominance. Six ascending terraces connected by narrow gateways combine Shaivite worship with indigenous Javanese fertility traditions. Large lingam and turtle-platform carvings on the upper terrace merge Hindu cosmology with local animist practices. Active Hindu worship continues here — one of Java's last Hindu communities maintains the site. Its resemblance to Balinese temple architecture suggests cultural continuity. At 301.12° Giza bearing, Cetho and nearby Sukuh form a paired mountain-sanctuary complex with remarkably consistent geometric orientation.
