El Brujo ('The Sorcerer') is a major Moche ceremonial complex centered on two pyramids — Huaca Cao Viejo and Huaca Cortada — overlooking the Pacific in the Chicama Valley. The site's most extraordinary discovery was the Lady of Cao, a female Moche ruler buried around 450 CE with elaborate tattoos of serpents, spiders, and catfish covering her arms and legs — direct evidence that women held supreme political and religious authority in Moche society. Her burial included war clubs and nose ornaments previously found only with male rulers. At 60.82° Giza bearing, El Brujo sits on the coastal Pleiades corridor. The pyramid's polychrome murals depicting combat and sacrifice are among the finest examples of Moche art.
