Huaca Prieta is one of the most important preceramic sites in the Americas — a mound at El Brujo occupied as early as 14,500 years ago, with continuous human activity spanning over 10,000 years. The site yielded the earliest known cotton textiles in the Americas (c. 4000 BCE) and the oldest evidence of indigo dye and avocado cultivation. At 60.82° Giza bearing on the coastal Pleiades corridor, Huaca Prieta represents the deepest time-depth of any site in this dataset. Tom Dillehay's excavations revealed underground chambers, ritual deposits, and evidence of sophisticated plant management long before agriculture was thought to have emerged in South America. The site fundamentally rewrites the timeline of human cultural development in the New World.
