Located on the Kola Peninsula near the Arctic Circle, the Kandalaksha stone labyrinth — known locally as 'Babylon' or 'Vavilon' — is a classical 7-circuit design likely constructed by the Sami people between 3000-1000 BCE. Situated along the Kandalaksha-Umba highway approximately 4 km from the White Sea coast, it belongs to the densest concentration of stone labyrinths on Earth: over 50 on the Kola Peninsula alone. At a remarkable 0.82° Giza bearing, this labyrinth sits almost exactly due south of the North Pole on the Giza meridian — one of the tightest polar-Giza alignments of any ancient structure. The Sami considered labyrinths as spirit traps and portals to the underworld.
