The Ananda Temple is called the "Westminster Abbey of Burma" — a masterwork of Mon and Indian architectural fusion rising from the Bagan plain. Built by King Kyanzittha around 1105 CE in a cruciform plan, four 9.5-meter standing Buddha statues face the cardinal directions from the temple's core. The gilded pinnacle (hti) is studded with over 1,600 precious stones. Several terraces ascend to a small pagoda-topped spire. The temple's perfect symmetry and luminous interior — lit through perforated stone screens — create an atmosphere of transcendent calm. At 292.86° Giza bearing across 6,389 km, Ananda anchors the Bagan alignment cluster with the highest architectural refinement.
