Sri Ksetra (modern Hmawza) was the largest of the Pyu ancient cities — UNESCO World Heritage listed — its monumental brick walls enclosing 1,857 hectares, making it the largest city in all of Southeast Asia before Angkor. The Pyu civilization (c. 200 BCE - 900 CE) developed Southeast Asia's earliest urban culture, with Theravada Buddhism, Sanskrit inscriptions, and irrigation systems predating Khmer civilization by centuries. Cylindrical stupas here influenced all later Burmese temple architecture. At 294.26° bearing to Giza across 6,536 km, Sri Ksetra marks the origin point of urban Southeast Asian civilization.
