Muara Takus, deep in the Sumatran interior of Riau province along the Kampar River, is the only significant Buddhist temple complex in Sumatra attributable to the Srivijaya maritime empire. Four substantial temples within a 74 x 74 meter walled enclosure display architectural links to both Javanese and Indian Buddhist traditions. The Mahligai Stupa features a unique lotus-petal crown found nowhere else in Indonesian architecture. At 301.53° bearing to Giza across 8,025 km, Muara Takus marks the Sumatran interior node of the Srivijaya spiritual network.
