Pura Besakih, the 'Mother Temple of Bali,' is the most important, largest, and holiest temple complex in Balinese Hinduism — 23 separate but related temples ascending the slopes of Mount Agung, Bali's highest and most sacred volcano, at nearly 1,000 meters elevation. The complex survived Agung's catastrophic 1963 eruption when lava flows split around it — an event Balinese regard as divine confirmation of the temple's sanctity. At 300.46° bearing to Giza across 9,931 km, Besakih sits at the volcanic heart of Bali's spiritual geography, connecting the island's Hindu sacred landscape to the broader Southeast Asian alignment network.
