Sambor Prei Kuk, ancient Isanapura, was the capital of the Chenla Empire that preceded the Khmer — established by King Isanavarman I in the early 7th century CE. Three main temple groups (North, South, Central) within double-walled enclosures contain over 150 Hindu temples across a 1,000-acre sacred precinct. The octagonal temples here are unique in Southeast Asian architecture. UNESCO World Heritage listed since 2017. At 297.52° bearing to Giza across 7,761 km, Sambor Prei Kuk represents the pre-Angkorian foundation layer of Khmer sacred architecture — the prototype from which Angkor evolved.
