The world's largest sandstone monolith — 348 meters high, 9.4 kilometers in circumference — rising from the flat desert of Australia's Red Centre. Its 550-million-year-old arkose sandstone is saturated with iron oxide, giving it the same deep red chemistry as Sedona's formations. The Anangu people have maintained continuous custodianship for at least 30,000 years, making it one of the oldest sites of continuous human-sacred relationship on Earth. In Anangu tradition, the Pleiades are called Kungkarungkara — the ancestral women. Aboriginal songlines connecting Uluru to distant sacred sites form an oral-geographic network that predates writing by tens of thousands of years. The rock changes color throughout the day — from deep ochre to blazing crimson to violet — as iron oxide interacts with shifting sunlight angles.
