Uronarti Fortress, built on a triangular island near the Second Cataract by Senusret III around 1850 BCE, represents the pinnacle of Middle Kingdom military engineering. Stone-paved streets, granaries, barracks, and a governor's house fit within its triangular walls — one of 17 fortresses controlling a 60 km stretch of the Nile. The triangular plan, unique among Egyptian forts, was dictated by the island's shape and exploited for maximum defensive efficiency. At 0.85° bearing to Giza across 940 km, Uronarti sits almost exactly on the Giza meridian — its triangular geometry a echo of pyramidal form projected onto the military landscape.
