The Yakutia Valley of Death (Russian: Долина Смерти, Yakut: Үлюю Чёркёчёх) is a remote stretch of the Vilyuy River basin in the Sakha Republic of eastern Siberia, named in 19th-century Yakut oral tradition for a series of metallic dome-shaped objects (olguy) said to be partly buried in the permafrost. Reports collected by the Russian ethnographer Richard Maack in the 1850s describe enormous flat copper-coloured caps under which travellers sometimes sheltered and afterwards fell ill. No such object has ever been documented by any Soviet or Russian geological expedition. The region is genuinely remote, the permafrost is genuinely deep, and the area lies on the projected groundtrack of the 1908 Tunguska bolide several hundred kilometres to the south. The Yakutia Valley of Death persists in the literature largely as a folklore record.

What is verifiable is the absence of evidence, and the persistence of the story among the people who live nearest to it.
