Western Xia Mausoleum 8 (Zhuangling) is the tomb of Emperor Huanzong (Li Chunyou, r. 1206-1211 CE), who came to power through a palace coup during the escalating Mongol threat. His brief reign saw desperate diplomatic maneuvers as Genghis Khan's forces pressed westward. The mausoleum's octagonal earth-cone tower, like its companions, shows the distinctive Western Xia funerary style — neither purely Chinese nor Tibetan, but a unique Tangut synthesis. At 286.67° Giza bearing, the geometric discipline of the necropolis held firm even as the dynasty's political foundations crumbled under Mongol pressure.
