Sesebi, a fortified New Kingdom town on the Nile's west bank, was founded during the reign of the heretic pharaoh Akhenaten — making it one of the few known settlements established during the Amarna period outside Egypt proper. The town measures 270 by 200 meters with a large temple consuming a third of the interior space. Originally dedicated to the Aten (Akhenaten's sole god), the temple was later rededicated to the traditional Amun triad after the Amarna revolution ended. At 2.98° bearing to Giza across 1,099 km, Sesebi preserves the Aten's reach along the Nile ley line into Upper Nubia.
